| Introduction |
| The Department of Applied Foreign Languages was founded in 2001. There are presently 5 classes of students from the first year to the fifth year, together with 5 full-time and 25 adjunct faculty members in the department. All of the faculty members have extensive experience in English teaching and are from diverse educational background in related fields. |
| Teaching Goals |
| To meet the needs of current social development, we aim to assist our English majors in cultivating an intermediate to high-intermediate level of language abilities and professional knowledge which they will need for their further studies and the future job market. Students will also benefit from resources from other programs in the school, such as Business Administration, Early Childhood Care and Education, and Information Management. |
| Curriculum Features |
- Basic courses focus on general English reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Advanced courses include Chinese-English Translation, Language and Culture, English Literature for Children, Introduction to Western Literature, Introduction to Second Language Acquisition, and various courses related to other programs of the school.
- English speaking and writing courses are conducted in small classes of about 20 to 25 students each.
- Two course modules, namely International Business Affairs Assistant Courses and
Teaching English to Children and Teaching Assistant Courses, are optional for senior students.
- English related competitions such as speech, singing and drama are held each semester.
Scholars and experts in different fields are invited to deliver speech, present lectures and provide professional advice for students.

| Facilities and Development |
- We have two advanced computerized labs for e-learning courses. We also have a self-learning center for our students to take various language proficiency practice tests on-line.
- We intend to add to our facilities more English learning software and other resources to carry out our teaching goals.
- We encourage students to obtain various English language proficiency certificates.
- The department intends to promote business or academic collaboration with appropriate companies or institutes in order to give our students adequate real-life experience.
